The Property
Muddy feet and beautiful dinners. Riverhouse is six acres on the Tsolum River in Courtenay, on Vancouver Island, and it’s never been just one thing: part barn, part garden, part river, part home.
Around the property
Nestled on the river’s edge, Riverhouse is a refined sanctuary for renewal. A private six-acre haven where nature leads the way, it invites you to breathe, balance, and reconnect in simplicity, self-love, and joyful presence.
Created for healing and deep inner work, this riverside retreat offers private forest paths, a luminous yoga barn, and quiet nooks designed for reflection.
A modern home surrounded by water, trees, and sky, it brings the outside in with clean, rustic refinement. Here, you can listen to your true self and step into a landscape that nourishes transformation.
An intimate retreat and event space, Riverhouse is tailored for meaningful gatherings, ceremonies, and practices guided by the rhythm of nature.

The founder
Katie Burkard
Riverhouse is Katie’s idea of a good life, made into a place. She wanted somewhere that felt imperfect and alive rather than pristine, where you could come up from the river and stay for dinner.
Katie has been through yoga teacher training twice and is a realtor by trade, with a love of adventure and a sharp eye for design. She’s behind many of the gatherings that have filled the barn, from ceremonies and culinary retreats to workshops and dance. For her, the luxury was never in things being perfect. It’s in the experience. “Magical, but real,” as she puts it.
Now the first objects are beginning to emerge from Riverhouse, so you can take a piece of it home.
